... of Sunday night's first semi-final of the Boston Blues Society's 2009 Boston Blues Challenge - Mr. Nick and the Dirty Tricks, and the Mighty Houserockers.
The two bands took the top two spots out of five competing at Johnny Ds Sunday, Nov. 1. They competed against a great line up of bands that included the Ten Foot Pole Cats, L'il Stevie and the Westsiders, and the Tokyo Tramps.
The Houserockers and Mr. Nick will compete again in the finals on Nov. 15 at Johnny Ds against the two winners of next Sunday,'s Nov. 8, semi final, also at Johnny Ds. The lineup for Nov. 8 is: Geezer, Alley Blues, the Mike Crandall Band, 2120 S. Michigan Ave. featuring Sweet Willie D, and Sit Down Baby!
Admission is $7 at the door. The show starts around 8:15 p.m
The Boston Blues Society has selected 10 semi-finalists to compete in the Blues Challenge November 1 and 8 at Johnny D’s in Somerville. Choosing the bands was a daunting task, but we were thrilled with the overwhelming response this year.

Both shows will start around 8:15 p.m., following the regular blues jam with Monster Mike Welch.
Admission for the challenge is $7 per person at the door.
The two winning bands from each semi-final night, as determined by three judges, will compete in the finals on Nov. 15 at Johnny D’s, before a different set of three judges. Admission that night will be $9 at the door.
The winning band will represent Boston at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January.

In addition, the Boston Blues Society board voted to sponsor Bruce Marshall as its solo-duo act at the International Blues Challenge. A fundraiser show to help offset his expenses will be announced when it has been finalized.
